As we age, taking care of our physical health and nutrition becomes increasingly important. This was a realization I had at 50, which is now 20 years ago. I sought out a trainer who was well-versed in nutrition and supplements and began my journey toward better health. This journey has led me to work with older adults and has shown me how important food and nutrition are for overall health, especially when under stress and anxiety.

Food is like natural medicine.

The food we eat can exacerbate issues, such as allergies, sensitivities, and gluten intolerances, which can lead to panic attacks and anxiety. By assessing our food choices and reactions to different foods, we can create a food mood assessment, which helps us understand the impact of our diet on our mental health.

It’s crucial to understand the impact of food on our bodies and minds as we age. Our digestive system becomes less effective, and we may develop intolerances, such as lactose intolerance. The quality of food we eat, how we eat it, and the times of day we eat it can impact the benefits we receive from it.

Cooking can become challenging as we age, but it’s essential to maintain healthy eating habits. Food diaries and mindfulness while eating can help us understand our eating patterns and habits. Eating with others, such as children and grandchildren, and teaching them about healthy eating habits, is also important.

Food can be both positive and negative for our mental health.

Some people use it as self-medication, which can lead to depression and anxiety. Eating the wrong food can also cause inflammation, which is the root cause of many diseases. Developing a healthy relationship with food and developing good eating habits can help us live longer, healthier lifes.

Fats are necessary for brain support, while complex carbohydrates regulate fat metabolism and generate energy. Protein is essential for physical and mental health, especially during times of stress. Eating raw nuts, eggs, and complex carbohydrates, like veggies can help us feel satisfied after meals. Dehydration can lead to a lack of energy and dizziness, and drinking enough water and electrolyte solutions can prevent this.

Nutrition is a vital part of maintaining our physical and mental health, especially as we age. Assessing our food choices, developing healthy eating habits, and understanding the benefits and drawbacks of different foods can help us live longer, healthier lives. By incorporating these habits and paying attention to our bodies and minds, we can make informed decisions about our nutrition and overall health.
